CREATING MOMENTUM FOR THE NEW GENERATION

The Power of a Team

Despite being on the other side of the world, Argentina has proudly won Olympic medals in the last five Olympic games. From the brown waters of the Rio de la Plata , the fresh water of many lakes or the rough waves of the Argentinean sea, sailors from this country have proven to achieve the unexpected in strong top teams of TP52, Americaā€™s Cup or The Ocean Race. In addition to its sailing tradition, this country has also some worldwide distinguished yacht designers such as GermĆ”n Frers and Juan Koyoumdjian. Last but not least, we have one of the best optimist factories in the planet (Lange-Riotecna) , something that our captain started more than 30 years ago.

For the SSL Gold Cup, Argentina has put together a team that combines the large experience from Olympic medalist and TP52 top sailors, together with young sailors who aim to bring energy and fresh ideas to the team.

1978
Is the year when the country hosted and won the FIFA World Cup. This event was significant for Argentina as it brought national pride and unity during a time of political unrest and economic struggles. The victory also established the country as a prominent football nation and contributed to the sport's cultural significance in Argentina.

The captain

Santiago Lange

Santi is probably the most decorated and known sailor in Argentina. He has 3 Olympic medals, including the amazing Gold in the Nacra 17 class. He is not only a top-class sailor: he is also a Naval Architect, and has been involved in many America’s Cup campaigns, being part of the design as well as the sailing team. He has plenty of world championships, from Snipe Class to TP52s. He brings experience, leadership, and a vision of empowering young sailors in professional sailing.

THE LEADERS

Alejandro Colla
Olympic and America’s Cup sailor, Alejandro Colla competed in the Finn class at the 2004 Olympic Games and was a member of the +39 team in the 2007 America’s Cup in Valencia, Spain. He is a multiple-time world champion and has competed in the TP52 class for many years.

Gabriel Marino
Gabriel Marino, an experienced sailor in large vessels, has shone in thirteen seasons of TP52 (2007-2020), standing out in the Audi Med Cup and the 52 Super Series. With two TP52 world titles in 2009 and 2015, as well as multiple first places in the annual TP52 circuit between 2012 and 2019 with the yacht Azurra, his track record highlights his dedication and skill in elite nautical competitions.

Victoria Travascio
Driven by her passionate dedication to the sport, Victoria Travascio achieved a notable triumph by winning a South American Championship alongside her older sister, Mercedes. In the 29er category, she participated in two world championships, developing a strong preference for skiffs, which motivated her to choose sailing in the 49er FX with the firm goal of competing in the Olympic Games. Her trajectory includes participation in two Pan American Games and two Olympic Games, culminating in a remarkable fifth place in the latter.
