CREATING MOMENTUM FOR THE NEW GENERATION
The Power of a Team
Despite being on the other side of the world, Argentina has proudly won Olympic medals in the last five Olympic games. From the brown waters of the Rio de la Plata , the fresh water of many lakes or the rough waves of the Argentinean sea, sailors from this country have proven to achieve the unexpected in strong top teams of TP52, America’s Cup or The Ocean Race. In addition to its sailing tradition, this country has also some worldwide distinguished yacht designers such as Germán Frers and Juan Koyoumdjian. Last but not least, we have one of the best optimist factories in the planet (Lange-Riotecna) , something that our captain started more than 30 years ago.
For the SSL Gold Cup, Argentina has put together a team that combines the large experience from Olympic medalist and TP52 top sailors, together with young sailors who aim to bring energy and fresh ideas to the team.

The captain
Santiago Lange
Santi is probably the most decorated and known sailor in Argentina. He has 3 Olympic medals, including the amazing Gold in the Nacra 17 class. He is not only a top-class sailor: he is also a Naval Architect, and has been involved in many America’s Cup campaigns, being part of the design as well as the sailing team. He has plenty of world championships, from Snipe Class to TP52s. He brings experience, leadership, and a vision of empowering young sailors in professional sailing.

THE LEADERS
Mariano “Cole” Parada
Mariano “Cole” Parada is one of Argentina’s most experienced pro sailors. He has been involved in great teams and was one of Santi’s coaches in Rio 2016. He competed in the 2000 Sydney Olympics in the Tornado class and was part of Victory Challenge for the 32nd America’s cup in 2007. In addition to many other titles, he has multiple TP52 and Soto 40 World Championships, all in which he had a role as tactician or strategist. He has been a lifelong friend from Santi and is happy to help the young pro sailors in Argentina as well as the Argentinian Olympic team.
Tomás Dietrich
Tomás Dietrich has sailed in Optimist, 420, Lightning, Laser, Match Race and has now a strong reputation in J70.
He is 2012 South American and Argentina Laser Radial Champion and was second at the 2010 Lightning Youth Worlds. Tomás Dietrich has successfully coached Optimist teams from different places and pursued an Olympic Campaign in 470. He was also a tactician for the 36 Below Racing from New Zealand which earned second place during the World Match Racing Tour.
Guillermo Parada
Guille has been the leader and helmsman of the Azzurra Tp52 project for the last 15 years. He has also been involved in America’s cup teams and was an Olympian in 470 class. He will be a great example for the young sailors on how to manage a big team and any long term project.

THE YOUTH FACTOR
Our Captain, Santi Lange, believes this project is the perfect chance for the young Argentinian sailors to shine, enhancing their talent, passion and determination in order to launch themselves into the professional sailing world.
